Description

This project will entail analysis of data obtained by scanning block electron microscopy. Using computational analysis of serial electron microscopy images (SBEM), 3D renderings of mitochondrial ultrastructure will be generated. Changes in mitochondrial ultrastructure including mitochondrial length, branching, constriction points, and cristae morphology will be analyzed to evaluate the role of mitochondrial dynamics in brain injury after stroke.

Qualifications

Basic understanding of cellular structure, mitochondrial function, and 3D rendering software would be helpful. All techniques will be taught in the lab, so enthusiastic students with little experience will be considered.

Project Timeline

This project will require ~3-5 months to complete, 5-15 hours per week.
