KickStart Study
This is a health promotion group that runs at Beaumont Family Medicine (Troy, MI) on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. The group teaches mindfulness meditation, incorporates live physical activity, and uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivation Interviewing techniques to help participants to work through cognitive barriers to getting healthy.

Research Assistant Tasks: prepping group materials and making reminder phone calls to participants in the group. You may also attend and help with sessions (e.g., setting up room of medication and exercise, handing out materials, etc). You will need to become a volunteer at Beaumont Hospital to assist (further information will be provided).

To participate as a research assistant, students must be able and willing to transport themselves to Troy Beaumont Hospital located at 44250 Dequindre Road, Sterling Heights, MI.

Other qualifications:
GPA ≥ 3.3.
Attention to detail a must!
Ability to work with faculty, grad students, undergraduates, and participants.
Ability to commit 10 hours/week in the lab.
Ability to commit to one calendar year in the lab.
I am already committed with honor's thesis supervision and cannot take an honor's student who needs to complete a thesis.

Project Timeline

Now through November 15, 2017: Recruit 2 qualified undergraduate students.
November 2017-December 2018: Training and undergraduate participation.


Data management including managing files in MS Excel and Qualtircs. We will provide training.
Recruitment of participants through phone calls and mailings.
Attending group sessions and assisting therapist-leader.
