The purpose of this research is to: 1) generate and pilot-test choice sets for a discrete choiceexperiment (DCE) survey to examine smoker couples’ preferences for content and format of a couple-based smoking cessation intervention, partner support desired by smokers, and partner’s willingnessand understanding of partner support and 2) examine preferences for a couple-based smokingcessation intervention. A DCE is a well-established methodology to understand anindividual’s perception of the overall benefits and trade-offs between attributes when making adecision about their preferred choice.
The findings of this study will lay the groundwork for future development of a couple-based smoking cessation intervention tailored to couples’ preferences to facilitate effective partnersupport.
