Narrative Bio

Jeong-Won Jeong, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology, MRI physicist and neuroimaging researcher in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Center located at Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit. Dr. Jeong received a B.S in Biomedical Engineering from Yonsei University, Korea, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California,  and a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Southern California in the Department of Radiology and Alfred E. Mann Institute for Biomedical Engineering. His research and clinical interest include functional and structural imaging biomarkers for the diagnosis of Epilpesy, Developmental Delay, Autisms, Sturge Weber Syndrome, and Borderline Personality Disorder. He has more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, is the principal investigator of an R01 grant project funded by the National Institutes of Health to study an advanced diffusion MRI tractography methodology minimizing postoperative deficits in pediatric epilpesy surgery, a Co-Investigator on four additonal R01s to develop advanced multimodal imaging methodologies including MRI, PET and electrocorticography in order to accurately detect early onset of pediatric neurological disorders.

Development of functional and structural neuroimaging techniques using diffusion tractography, functional MRI, PET and ECoG in children with epilpepsy, developmental delay, autisms, sturge-weber syndrome, and borderline personality disorder. 

Advanced brain network analyses using deep learning techniques to quantify and detect brain abnormalites in children.
Presurgical planning computer algorithms to determine whether the seizure focus affects functionally important neural pathways in children with focal epilepsy.
Imaging and genotyping of children with developmental delay to investigate the relation of genotype with MRI phenotype and behavioral deficits in children with developmental delay and impairment.
