Biography

Karen O’Leary, M.A., CCC-SLP retired as the clinic director/clinical coordinator for speech-language pathology in December 2021. She currently works as a part-time instructor for the CSD department. Mrs. O’Leary began working as a clinical instructor at WSU in May 1990. She taught undergraduate and graduate courses during her career at WSU,and served as the undergraduate advisor for many years. Karen also worked as a clinical instructor in the WSU-Renaissance Head Start program. Prior to coming to WSU, she worked at Sinai Hospital of Detroit and served as an SLP supervisor at an out-patient facility. Mrs. O’Leary’s primary clinical interests are developing emergent literacy skills for head start children and the impact of poverty on communication development. She also provides training webinars on clinical education.

Research Description

Speech-Language Disorders in preschool children; Pre-literacy development in children with communication disorders.
