Biography
Maha Saker is an Associate Professor of teaching in the Near Eastern & Arabic studies at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Damascus University, and completed a postgraduate diploma in Translation and Interpreting in the same academic Institution. She joined the Master program at Salford University in Manchester U.K and obtained an MA in Applied Linguistics. After teaching for eight years in the Arabic Studies department in Salford University, she joined the Doctorate program in the College of Education at Wayne State University and accepted a Program Coordinator position for “Pathways to Quality Teaching” training bilingual teachers in Detroit public schools. She started teaching in her current position in 2003. She won the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2013. In addition to teaching, Maha Saker has obtained several grants for curriculum development including the Educational Development Grant from WSU in 2014. She developed two full online courses for Media Arabic and Modern Arabic Literature.
